Field approach

Photographs and guides, together

I want the photographs to give you a feel for a place, while the guide helps you make sense of the details. Each destination is shown as it actually exists, in natural daylight and at ordinary hours.

Practical travel information sits close to the story, so you can move from looking to planning at your own pace.

Fieldwork

How each guide comes together

01

Research

I start with the destination's history, transport, seasons, and neighbourhoods, then note the questions a visitor is likely to ask before arriving.

02

Visual exploration

I spend time walking streets and markets at different hours, photographing wide views for context and close details for the textures that make a place recognisable.

03

Guide creation

I shape the photographs and practical notes into one guide, so each image points to a detail a reader can look for and plan around on their own visit.
